This blend of Ascolano, Mission and
Manzanillo received a Gold Medal at the L.A. County Fair Olive Oils of the
World Competition in 2004 and in 2005, and a silver medal in 2006 and 2007. It also received a Silver medal at the 2008
Yolo County Fair Olive Oil Competition. It was chosen among the World's Best
Oils by the German magazine "Der Feinschmecker" in 2005. It has been
recommended by the Italian expert, Marco Oreggia, in his books "Guide
L'Extravergine" each year since 2005. It has a balance of fruity, bitter,
and pungent qualities, and has an aroma and flavor reminiscent of artichokes, a
quality typical of California variety olives.
This is a good all-purpose olive
oil because it adds mild flavor to your favorite recipes without overwhelming
other ingredients. Marco Oreggia recommends it on salad of fresh calamari, beef
carpaccio, baked mushrooms, boiled vegetables, mussels topped with grilled
cheese, vegetable soup, and grilled meat.
Camino al Cielo is certified extra virgin by the
California Olive Oil Council. In addition to its certification, Figueroa Farms
contributes 5% for every bottle sold to support the California Olive Oil
Council's efforts towards truth in labeling for all olive oil sold in the U.S.
